== How to install and use binaries distributions of CHICKEN Note: To install [[eggs]], you'll need a C compiler. === Linux For security reasons, you should check if the tarball is ok by typing $ tar tzf chicken-<version>-linux-x86.tar.gz You should see the paths starting with {{./usr/local/...}} (if you don't, [[http://www.irp.oist.jp/trac/chicken|report a bug]]). If the tarball file is ok, untar it with the following command: $ tar xzvf chicken-<version>-linux-x86.tar.gz -C / You probably will need root privileges to write under {{/usr/local}}. {{/usr/local/bin/csi}} will give you the REPL prompt. === Windows ==== Binary Unzip the chicken directory into the root directory (C:\ for example) and add the C:\chicken\bin path to your PATH environment variable to ease your life at the command line. Ensure that you have a C compiler if you want csc to work; install MinGW, add C:\MinGW\bin\ (or where ever you put mingw) and copy the contents of chicken's include and lib directories into MinGW's same directories.
